His outrageous fashion and controversial behaviour have been making headlines for decades. Left to their own devices. Happily occupy myself doing whatever. An early obsession with David Bowie led, as a teenager, into a disparate, catholic interest in just about everything. And I think probably my favourite decade. George began to experiment with his look, a process that remains ongoing. It was like teddy boys, casuals, reggae kids, everybody wanted to give you a punch, everybody. Success with Culture Club was instant, unstoppable. Some people really get into it and they like it.
But, by the mids, George was catching up fast. Culture Club split, but it took something much worse for George to reform. In , he pleaded guilty in New York of falsely reporting a burglary; he was given a fine and, famously, did street cleaning as part of his community service.
George served four months and has not touched drink or drugs in almost a decade since. Why did George feel he had to apologise? And, actually, what I learned from that period was to shut up. If you knew me before then, I had no off button. And going through that whole experience really taught me to protect myself and to just be a little bit more selective about what I talk about. I went through it!
Why would I want to talk about it? People are so nice to me! What have I done to deserve this? There can be something heart-sinking about a s revival, but Culture Club has returned with big, catchy songs full of soul.
Things are going to get noisy again. Personally, George seems in a good place these days. He spent much of the past two years in Australia, where he was a judge on The Voice. Just mad little things. He ponders that notion for a moment, hard-earned from 57 turbulent years on the planet.

Steinbeck in the Schools
George is a protective man, who has been caring for his friend Lennie for a long time. The two men are not related but have been friends since they were children, so as well as enjoying his company, George also feels responsible for his welfare. George often talks to Lennie about their dream. This results in outbursts of anger towards Lennie at certain points in the novel, although George regrets these quickly. George recognises that his friendship with Lennie is special because men like George would not have had friendships due to moving around so much for work; it would have been very unusual for two men to travel around together due to work being scarce.

We look back at the GQ archive in the singer, who died in London over Christmas in , aged 53, has packed several lifetimes into four decades, beating drugs, depression and a cruel outing at the hands of the world's media. In his most revealing interview to date, conducted in when he won our GQ Lifetime Achievement award, he explains why it's all been worth it. George Michael's house is tucked away alongside a block of flats in the dead end of a rather unremarkable west London road. His Range Rover barely squeezes onto the off-street parking area, and there are no security gates, no imposing entrance pillars, and not so much as a CCTV camera or concrete lion in sight.
George, a ranch hand, is primarily Lennie's caretaker. He is normally good natured, but angers easily, especially if someone is threatening Lennie. George seeks the American Dream in the form of a piece of land where he and Lennie can live without having to answer to anyone. Though George's life is unduly complicated by his having to care for Lennie, he accepts his responsibility. Described as a big man with "wide slopping shoulders," the text implies that Lennie is mentally handicapped 2.
